Can I get another round? One more round. I’ll be here if you need me. Can you play it all again, When that last song ends? Just one more and then I’ll leave. Oh, can I get another round? Turn it up before the lights go dim. I got a pocket full of quarters, wanna put ‘em all in. Don’t gimme that jazz, just stick to rock ‘n’ roll. Play the stuff that soothes my soul. Give me the passion, give me the pain. And when the last tear falls, I wanna do it again. No man, I’m not ok, but can I get another round? Can I get another round? One more round. I’ll be here if you need me. Can you play it all again, When that last song ends? Just one more and then I’ll leave. Can I get another round? One more round to wash this down.

The Body 03:27
I’m sorry Momma but I can’t come back. I’m heading down to the railroad tracks. I’ve got to get out of this place. Got my shoes tied tight, but it’s getting dark. There’s a moon out tonight, I didn’t make it that far. I’m so alone and I’m so afraid. And I know, I’m bound to go, where the Castle River flows. Will you love me tomorrow? And they’ll say, you miss me like a sailor out to sea. Will you love me tomorrow? Oh I wish you’d stand by me. I had a dream that I had friends. We built a treehouse, we were real cool kids. And we thought it would always be this way. The big kids didn’t stand a chance. We stuck together through the thick and thin. And we promised we would never be afraid. And I know, I’m bound to go, where the Castle River flows. Will you love me tomorrow? And they’ll say, you miss me like a sailor out to sea. Will you love me tomorrow? Oh I wish you’d stand by me.

Paradise 03:34
I can feel it in my bones, From the depths of the catacombs. I never gave up hope. It’s just like whistling in the snow. The stars are never wrong. The ghosts never left this song. The sun only sets ‘til Dawn. That’s why I’ve waited for so long. So Long Shadows are not eternal. Yearning is universal. Barren lands have become fertile. We’ve finally come full circle. I’ve climbed to paradiso. Your smile puts me at ease oh. It’s time to cross that street oh. Set me, set me free oh. So Long

I know that it ain't easy. I won’t be comin’ home real soon. So tell ma boy, we got a choice. We can wait around for life and get destroyed, Or we can knuckle down, sing our own tune. So I’m leavin’ tomorrow. San Francisco, here I come. I got the itch, to strike it rich. Don’t wanna be like all the other working stiffs. I wanna march to the beat of a different drum. Oh oh, as the crow flies. Oh oh, sight for sore eyes. Oh oh, California sun rise. Take me home. I grow tired of this fever. There ain’t no gold to be found. But everyday, I get paid. There’s always gonna be a fool to hang. But I ain’t ever gonna get used to that sound. I know they ain’t always guilty, But who the hell am I to judge? Put my head down, to the ground, Close my eyes as the bodies slam down. As the carrions begin to plunge. Oh oh, as the crow flies Oh oh, sight for sore eyes Oh oh, California sun rise Home sweet home

I still remember that October day. You said hello, but I just waved. I was too shy to say I liked your dress. My hands were filthy, my hair was a mess. I miss you so much. You wouldn’t recognize the corner store. They don’t sell Bazooka Gum no more. And Uncle Nino’s house, they burned it to the ground. Neighbors drivin’ by, they don’t slow down. I miss you so much. I curse the day when He took you away. We don’t talk much anymore. Well I’m glad He took you first. Livin’ like this is worse. Wish we could go back to before. Springdale Avenue just ain’t the same. Don’t think anybody knows my name. Can’t drive on Sundays because the cars go way too fast. Look around, this ain’t no way to live. I miss you so much. I curse the day when He took you away. We don’t talk much anymore. Well I’m glad He took you first. Livin’ like this is worse. Wish we could go back to before.

Tulsa Heat 04:39
The Tulsa heat keeps bringin’ me down. This great big war seems to change this little town. A black wall rising, storm clouds all around. The Tulsa heat keeps bringin’ me down. I made some dough, shinin’ dem shoes. On 3rd and Main, keep dancing to dem blues. I coulda been a star, I was bound for the news. But I kept my head down, shinin’ dem shoes. Don’t ask me for forgiveness. Don’t ask the blind to see. And don’t pretend we’re equal, ‘Cause you know that it’s all make believe. I ee I watched the city burn down. Ow ow ow ow they burned the city down. They shot my friends ‘fore they even crossed the tracks. As bombs rained down, Greenwood turned to ash. They hid the bodies, tried to erase the past. They shot my friends and they ain't’ comin’ back. Don’t ask me for forgiveness. Don’t ask the blind to see. And don’t pretend we’re equal, ‘Cause you know that it’s all make believe. I ee I watched the city burn down, Ow ow ow ow they burned the city down.

Annabel Lee 02:18
I once loved a girl named Annabel Lee. Aweigh, hey, away. Until my captain called me to sea. Aweigh, hey, away for me. She called me a bastard and spat in my face. Aweigh, hey, away. ‘Cause I told her I loved her and be back here someday. Aweigh, hey, away for me. With many young women, oh, I have been. Aweigh, hey, away. But none stole my heart like Annabel Lee. Aweigh, hey, away for me.

Father, can you hear me, I never wanted it this way. I tried so hard to make you proud, tried to keep my people safe. But I can’t say that I blame them, everyone who tried to fight. I just can’t help but wonder ‘bout all of those who died. Almost all the men are gone, and all the children have fled. I fear that we will find them in the hills amongst the dead. Oh my heart’s so sick and sad, and I’m so tired of this war. As long as I am living, I will fight no more. But everyday I walk this Earth I will remember. When I look up to the skies, I won’t forget. All the broken promises, how they raped my Mother’s land. I’ll search this foreign nation ‘til I find you again. I have walked so many miles, and I’ve met so many Chiefs. They say that I can trust them, but their words I don’t believe. Oh I’ll never see the sunrise o’er the mountains again. oh how I miss the valley, the heartbeat of our land. But everyday I walk this Earth I will remember. When I look up to the skies, I won’t forget. All the broken promises, how they raped my Mother’s land. I’ll search this foreign nation ‘til I find you again. I am bound to live in sorrow, all my dreams have been smashed. I pray to see my mother and father’s grave at rest. But the grave, it has been emptied, my father’s skull is gone. My heart’s completely broken, I know I don’t have long. But everyday I walk this Earth I will remember. When I look up to the skies, I won’t forget. All the broken promises, how they raped my Mother’s land. I’ll search this foreign nation ‘til I find you again. All the broken promises, how they raped my mother’s land, Until they treat us all like brothers, we will not be friends.

Fox Lake 02:35
Oh my darling Vivian, Look at the mess you’ve got me in. I never wanted trouble, I fell in love with you kid. Look at the mess you’ve got me in. Oh I know that you ain’t scared. So meet me at Manning’s by the stairs. I’ll have your whiskey waiting. You can throw away all your cares. Meet me at Manning’s by the stairs. Run away, run away. Forget about what’s his name. Just give me a sign to leave. Oh baby, I think you're hit. I’m so sorry that I got you into this. Soon it will be over. You can put away all your fear. I’m so sorry that I got you into this. Run away, run away. Forget about all your pain. Just give me a sign to leave.

Maple Place 02:33
It ain’t that bad, it’s just a little blood. Get a buncha dirt and cover it up. There you go, you’re good to go, let’s go. It hurt pretty bad, but I ain’t gonna cry. It’s about the 100th time I fell off my bike. Here we go, I’m good to go, let’s go. It's cold out here, it don't bother me. Sweat In my eyes, I can barely see. Grass stains on my pants everytime I fall. The sun’s goin down, I guess it’s time to leave. Let’s play again tomorrow and we’ll keep the same teams. Same place, same time, who wants to bring the ball? We’re not afraid of you, you can play with us. But you hide first, oh man, good luck. There they go, we’re good to go, let’s go I fell in the creek, and now there’s mud in my hair So damn dirty but I just don’t care. Here we go, I’m good to go, let’s go. It's cold out here, it don't bother me. Sweat In my eyes, I can barely see. Grass stains on my pants everytime I fall. The sun’s goin down, I guess it’s time to leave Let’s play again tomorrow and we’ll keep the same teams. Same place, same time, who wants to bring the ball? Life used to be so simple to me. Hangin’ out with friends, we were so much smarter then. As hard as we try, innocence will die. When I waved, oh I didn’t know it was goodbye. I’ll bring the ball.

about

The album title comes from the band’s tendency to write songs that serve as records of the past, stories of a bygone era. Some of the tracks are based on historical events like the California Gold Rush (“As the Crow Flies”) the Tulsa Massacre (“Tulsa Heat”), Organized Crime (“Fox Lake”) and Indian Removal (“Broken Promises''). Other tunes are influenced by literature. “Paradise”, for example, is a love song based on Dante’s Divine Comedy; “Annabel Lee'' serves as a prequel for the Edgar Alan Poe poem of the same name; and “The Body” tells the tale of the Stephen King novella that was the influence for the movie Stand by Me. The Burntmill Ghosts version tells the story from the perspective of the dead body. Other tunes like “Springdale Ave.” and “Maple Place '' are more personal, but they are still steeped in history, a perfect way to close each side of the record.
